Artificial Intelligence at Elval: A catalyst for growth in the aluminium industry and its people.

 
Elval, the aluminium rolling division of ElvalHalcor, hosted a television crew of ERT Channel (Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation) on Tuesday, February 4 at its facilities in Oinofyta, Viotia, Greece. The visit was part of a broader discussion on the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in business, and the challenges and opportunities it presents for the Greek industry.
 
Gerasimos Moschopoulos, Elval IT Senior Director, highlighted the strategic investments in facilities, equipment, and technology, over the last decade, totaling to EUR 800 million. These investments have positioned Elval as one of Europe’s leading aluminium processing industrial companies. He also highlighted key AI applications within Elval showcasing how machine learning is incorporated across the entire aluminium rolling process, from recycling and casting to the final product.
 
Mr. Moschopoulos outlined the benefits of artificial intelligence, stating: "At Elval, we leverage artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation throughout the production process and at the quality control stage. In this way, we improve efficiency, increase production capacity, and enhance innovation, while simultaneously reducing energy costs, fulfilling our commitment to sustainable development.”  

Regarding AI’s  impact on the workforce, Mr. Moschopoulos emphasized the company’s commitment to employees’ growth: "We continuously invest in specialised training in digital skills and artificial intelligence tools, providing our people with reskilling and upskilling in order to keep up with technological advancements. At the same time, the demand for experts in artificial intelligence, data science, and automation is increasing, creating new job opportunities."
